03 The DCN Projects
Procedure for DCN Projects
The method that proved successful in the Enterprise 4.0 project is also being used in the DCN project. When forming chapters, great care is taken to ensure that no competing companies work together. After that, joint research and learning begins.
The participating companies visit each other to learn about specific digitalization applications and solutions. The regular meetings also take place at management level and serve to improve networking.
Subclusters are organized when certain special topics arise during the collaboration that affect several participants.
What Makes a DCN Project?
1 DYNAMIC MATCHMAKING
Dynamic matchmaking brings the right people together at the right time to fully exploit the innovation potential of companies. The approach is based on the latest findings from cross-industry innovation and value co-creation research and has already been successfully applied and further developed in practice by the DCN team.
2 BUILD CHAPTERS
The DCN forms chapters. The companies in a defined chapter are selected so that there is no direct competition. The chapter companies work together for a defined project period.
3 COLLECTIVE RESEARCH AND LEARNING
The DCN operates dynamic matchmaking. The cluster is based on openness and trust. Research and learning take place together in a protected area – with the involvement of the educational and research institutions that the DCN brings on board as project-specific partners.
4 GO & SEE:
The participating companies visit each other to get to know concrete digitalization applications and solutions on site.
5 NETWORKS
The DCN regularly organizes meetings at management and project levels in order to exchange experiences at these levels. Large group events are held annually to mutually reflect on project progress and the lessons learned with all those involved in the individual projects.
6 SUBCLUSTER
The DCN organizes sub-clusters to dive deeper into topics when certain special topics arise during the course of the project that affect several members.
Enterprise 4.0
In 2017, the book “Enterprise 4.0. Elf Leitbetriebe auf ihrem Weg zu Digital Champions” (“Enterprise 4.0. Eleven leading companies on their way to becoming digital champions”) was published.
The publication traces the path from the project initiative to selected use cases of the companies involved.
These concrete projects document the implementation in the sense of applied research and characterize the project methodology: definition of company-specific questions, processing in networks of science and research, students and companies and transfer of the results into practice.
The concrete individual case studies characterize the successes to date in the various companies and are evidence of the diversity of the results under the topic of digitalization.
